In 1921, by the Mörrum River in Svängsta, Sweden, Carl August Borgström founded AB Urfabriken. The company manufactures pocket watches, telephone timers and taxi meters. Borgström was a brilliant craftsman with a talent for light precision technique; skills he acquired during his years at the Halda Watch Factory.
Unfortunately, the Second World War led to a sharp decline in the demand for taximeters. Undaunted, ABU turned its skills to developing precision fishing reels used by anglers around the world. This is why Abu Garcia later received the honor of being selected as "Supplier to the Royal Swedish Court", a distinction awarded to a select group of manufacturers for consistently exceeding the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship.
Abu Garcia's influence on the sport fishing community is unparalleled. The company remains firmly committed to maintaining its industry leadership position by providing anglers everywhere with the highest quality and most innovative products.
